In this episode of Mentoring for the Modern Musician the boys are super excited to bring you a conversation with Tim Pattison! Tim is Director, Creative at BMI at Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI). In this role, he is responsible for scouting and signing new songwriters and publishers, maintaining relationships with existing BMI affiliates worldwide, as well as coordinating various songwriter-focused showcases, seminars and festivals.
Prior to BMI, Pattison worked at Fat Possum Records, where he focused on sync licensing. Before that Tim was at Spirit Music Group, where he spent eight years, holding several positions including creative director. While at Spirit, he helped develop the company’s roster of songwriters, expanded its network within the entertainment industry, spearheaded co-writing opportunities and developed licensing strategies.
Tune in for Tim’s take on the business end of the music industry and get inspired by his passion for all things musical!!!

Marc is an American singer-songwriter whose style is best described as "Bayou Soul", a mix of funk, blues, R&B, soul, rock and pop, matched with distinct Southern roots. He is an artist with a unique gift of channeling the spirits of classic R&B, rock and soul into contemporary terms. He has over 500,000 combined albums sold and plays over 150 tour dates and festivals per year. Born and bred on the bayou. Big voice, big heart, deep and contemplative mind.
He is also a father 4, husband, philanthropist, musical entrepreneur and one hell of a great guy to talk to! Listen in as we discuss the current state of the industry and how important it is to think “long game”!

In this episode of Mentoring for the Modern Musician Michael and Adam went to visit long time firend Matt Smith! Matt is the Managing Director/Talent Booker of Club Passim, the legendary non-profit arts organization in Cambridge, MA, and has been there since 1995. He has also worked for Young/Hunter Management and was one of the founders of FolkWeb, an online CD realtor in the mid-late 90s. Matt has been on panels, juries and committees at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, Folk Alliance International, and the Northeast Regional Folk Alliance. He has worked as a tour manager, sound engineer, and stage manager/MC for various tours and festivals, as well as creating the revolutionary Campfire Series for Club Passim. He is currently enjoying a 2 year term as President of Folk Alliance International. As you will hear, Matt continues to have a passion for music, the acoustic scene, and having an active hand in helping develop its artists!
